Short Bio
Julia K Burzon is a self-taught artist with a healthy sense of humor, whose signature block usually begins with, “Artist, Nerd, Benevolent Overlord.” Although working towards the goal of consistent, marketable content with an identifiable style, Julia is still a bit all over the place, making her elevator pitch still a work in progress. Acrylic, Watercolor, Digital painting, plein air. Representational > abstract but some of both. Circles. Women. Bright colors.
Statement
I am a self-taught artist whose mostly representational work favors bright colors and circles. Although I completed an advanced placement art course as a high school student, and a photography minor in college, the bulk of my education and professional life has been in wildlife biology. Indeed, after some early professional/scientific illustration, I set art aside almost entirely in favor of other pursuits for some 20 years. However, returning to art informally in 2018 through art therapy got me creating again, and I have now reclaimed art as a serious personal and professional focus. When not creating just for the enjoyment of the process (I place a high value on play and learning), I continue to use art to explore my psychological and emotional landscape and am keenly interested in both the process and products of that pursuit. Other themes of interest include the life experiences of women, archetypes of the divine feminine, the place of the human species in the ecology of the planet and our experience as animals, as well as ageless commonalities in the human experience such as feelings of connection, expansiveness, and wonder.
Biography
Julia K. Burzon is an artist of traditional (watercolor, colored pencil) and mixed media. Julia’s formal education is not in art, beyond an AP course in high school, but rather includes a BS in Entomology/Wildlife Conservation, and a MS in Wildlife Biology.
Julia’s professional art career began with illustration in the 1990s. Published work from that time can be found in various Iowa State University Wildlife Extension publications, as scientific illustrations in a few peer-reviewed physics papers, and included a commission by the Program For Appropriate Technologies In Health (PATH).
After a significant hiatus, during which she worked in Wildlife Conservation and Management, owned/operated a small business, and bore and helped raise two children, she has now returned to art thanks to art therapy and the encouragement of others. Online stores at both Etsy and on Ko-fi.com offer art available for purchase or commission. You can keep up with Julia and her projects on her FanFARE Themed Art FaceBook page and on Instagram as she continues to explore her her thoughts, feelings, and experiences through her daily art practice.
